W. Fred Owenby, 81, of 136 Dye Leaf Road, Fairview, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Owenby was a son of the late Benjamin H. and Maggie McAbee Owenby and was also preceded in death by his wife, Rubye Foust Owenby who died December 10, 2000, and by a grandson, Jeffrey Allan Owenby. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a retired farmer and livestock dealer.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Owenby of Fairview and Frances Rucker of Black Mountain; two sons, Freddie Owenby of Fairview and Carroll Owenby of Charlotte; two sisters, Alma Twiss of Fairview and Elizabeth Lawter of Mills River; and six grandchildren, Susan Weaver, Sammy Sales, Bo Owenby, Sandra Owenby, Ben Owenby and Jeremy Herring.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Harris officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. His grandsons will be pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home.
