Freddie Mitchell Hopper, 78, died Sunday, October 26, 2014, at the John F. Keever, Jr., Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Hopper was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late Ralph E. and Ellen Bean Mitchell. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had worked as a secretary at BASF. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James M. Hopper; two sons, Kevin Hopper (Carol) and Kurt Hopper (Sherry); three grandchildren, Taylor and Thomas Hopper, and Tiffany Welborn; and three sisters, Debbie Walser, Donna Meadows and Sharon Embler; and caregiver, Susie Webb. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Chaplain Dr. Buddy Corbin and Rev. Donald N. Welborn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Rd., Charlotte, NC 28215, or to Calvary Baptist Church, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
