Geary Luther Cordell, 83, of Mills River, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Mr. Cordell was a son of the late Luther Hamilton “Dick” and Georgia Pierce Cordell. He was also preceded in death by his son, Randy Luther Cordell, and brothers, Vernon, Ross, and Garvin Cordell. From 1942 to 1945, Mr. Cordell served as an instructor in tank division of the U.S. Army. He worked with his father from the age of 15 at Cordell Motor Co. In 1950, Cordell Motor Co. became Carolina Truck and Body Co., Inc. He purchased it in 1968, and relocated to 1895 Old Haywood Rd. in 1972. He remained Operator and President until May of 2007, when he turned management over to his granddaughter, Lauren Smathers. Carolina Truck and Body will remain in operation under the management of the Cordell family. Geary Cordell was a co-founder of High Vista Country Club in Arden, and he enjoyed golf, travel, and his family. Mr. Cordell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gwynn Morgan Cordell; son, Rodney Cordell and wife Jan; daughters, Cheryl Cordell Smathers and fiancé, Brian Goldstein, and Kimberly Lowe and husband Kenny; brothers, Douglas Cordell, George Cordell and wife Joyce, and Frank Cordell and wife Betty; sisters, Dorothy Sanders and Jene Fryman and husband Richard; grandchildren, Matthew Cordell, Amanda Smathers, Lauren Smathers, Nicholas Cordell, and Ashley Cordell, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave with Chaplain Steve Jones officiating. His family will receive friends following the service.   5. I am very sorry to read of the loss of Geary Cordell. I worked at CT&B from 1993-1999 in the office. Geary was good boss and a nice man.

    I know Gwynn, Rodney, Cheryl, Kim and the rest of the family will miss him greatly.

    Geary never passed up a chance to laugh (whether it be inwardly or outwardly) with his employees and friends.
