Asheville ~ George "Jake" Beistel, Jr. 81, of Abbey Circle, Asheville, NC died on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late George Huff Beistel, Sr. and Myrtle Ilgenfritz Beistel. He was preceded in death by a sister, Melva Redinger. He retired as a labor relations manager with Westinghouse after 38 years of service and proudly served in the US Marine Corp. as a sea-going marine aboard the USS Missouri. He was a avid golfer and senior bowler and a lifelong Steeler fan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Beistel of Asheville; a son, George "Chip" Beistel III of Asheville; a grandson, Jacob Thompson Beistel of Fletcher. A graveside service will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with pastor John Qualmann officiating and military honors provided. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Groce Funeral Home East Asheville on Tunnel Road.
