Gerald Lee Parker, 69, of 18 Brown’s View Church Road, Candler, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at Hospice Solace Center after fighting a long battle with cancer. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Clinton and Henrietta Pell Parker and was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Lamonza and a brother, Reginald Parker. He was a US Army veteran and worked with the UNCA Maintenance Dept. A loving husband, daddy and papaw he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Warren Parker; two daughters, Ann Carver and her husband Randy of Candler and Sandy Flynn and her companion Glenn Banks, Jr. of Leicester; a sister, Marion Warren of Asheville; a brother, Charles Parker of Asheville; four grandchildren, Jeff Carver, Josh Case, Jessica Case and Hali Bosma. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service. Following the burial the family will be at the Beaverdam Community Center on Beaverdam Loop Road, Candler. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Area Hospice for their care and kindness.

  3. Gerald was a wonderful friend, a hard worker and credit to UNC Asheville. Everyone who worked with Gerald appreciated his kindness, sense of humor and sincere generous nature. He was a true credit to campus and Asheville as a whole, he will be missed.

  4. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Gerald Parker. I remember him not only as one that worked at UNCA but in many Church Sevices that He also attended in
    the Pentecostal Holiness Church in the Asheville area.
    Gerald was a kind hearted man and one who always spoke and one who a testimony for the Lord.
    My sincere sympathy goes to the family and friends and looking to the day of the grand reunion in the sky when the Lord shall return.
