Gerald V. Hess

Arden ~ Gerald V. "Jerry" Hess, 75, of Forest Ridge Drive, died Saturday, January 18, 2003. A native of Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Lena Reid Hess. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had been a resident of Arden since 1962. Jerry was a retired teacher and coach at Christ School and had also taught at St. Genievies and the Asheville School. He is survived by his wife, Jean Sullivan Hess; his daughter, Peggy McChesney of El Paso, Texas; his son, Steve Hess of Wadsworth, Ohio and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Christ School conducted by the Rev. Russell Ingersoll. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or to Christ School, c/o the Advancement Office, 500 Christ School Road, Arden, NC 28704. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
