Gerald William Zinger, 79, of 2702 Timber Trail, Asheville, died Thursday, February 23, 2006. Mr. Zinger was born in Detroit, MI, and was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Florence Clark Zinger and by a brother, Robert J. Zinger. He served with the US Navy on board the USS Hornet II during WW II and was a former co-owner of a linen supply company and owner of a medical equipment business in Michigan. He and his wife moved to Asheville in 1987 where he was a member of St. Eugene’s Catholic Church and enjoyed working part-time with the Grove Park Inn during his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Annette Link Zinger; two daughters, Pamela Zinger of Asheville and Suzanne Zinger-Good and her husband Larry Good of Dahlonega, GA; two grandsons, Erik and Luke Zinger-Good; and one brother, Russell J. Zinger. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
