Gladys Dodge Cordeiro, 94, of Candler, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the CarePartners Solace Center.

Mrs. Cordeiro was born in Maine, and was a resident of Florida for most of her life. She resided in Buncombe County for the last 12 years. She was a daughter of the late Herman F. and Laura McCartney Dodge. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John William Cordeiro.

Surviving are her daughter, Joan Hetrick (David); sons, David Bickford, Lane Bickford (Beth), Ronald Bickford (Lesa) and Jon Bickford (Terri); 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastor Allen Rash officiating. Attendance is limited to 50, and masks are required. Interment will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.

  13. Gladys, my Mother in Law We have so many memories we made over the 52 years of knowing and loving and sharing our lives. We will miss you always. You will live in our hearts forever. You was a special lady and I thank God I got to share so much with you. It breaks my heart that we can’t share in your service today because of the virus. We are going to have a Celebration of your Life here in Maine, as soon as this virus is over. Rest in Peace with John and your family in heaven. We love you. Terri and Jon

  16. We liked to call her “Happy Bottom”
    When we lived in Florida Aunt Gladys opened her home to the overflow of guests. She was the last of her brothers and sister
    She was likely welcomed with open arms . Happy and at peace now
