Myrtle Gladys Hopkins Duckett, 89, of Asheville, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at The Elizabeth House in Hendersonville. Mrs. Duckett was a native of Transylvania County, moving to Asheville in 1936, and was a daughter of the late Jake and Ila Gillespie. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Thomas Bolt Hopkins who died in 1975 and James E. Duckett who died in 1999 and by four brothers and sisters. She was retired after 27 years with A&P Supermarkets and was a member of Malvern Hills Baptist Church. She was dearly loved as a wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Survivors include a son, Thomas Harold Hopkins and his wife Barbara of Skyland; two granddaughters, Lisa Renee Hopkins of Raleigh and Kimberly Leigh Hopkins-Davey and her husband Timothy of Winston-Salem; a brother, Lloyd Gillespie and his wife Gail of Snow Hill, MD; sisters-in-law, Frances Gillespie of Asheville and Dorothy Kellam of Salisbury, MD and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. J.R. Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to The Elizabeth House/Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 2395, Hendersonville, NC 28793. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of The Oaks at Sweeten Creek, Dr. David T. Manly and his staff at Park Ridge Hospital, the entire staff at The Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, Dan and Jenny Thompson and Marlene Harbin for their extrodinary care and compassion.
