Glenda Pierce Brinkley, 69, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at her home. Mrs. Brinkley was born in Bradenton, FL, and was a daughter of the late Thomas Jessie and Evelyn Crane Pierce. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County where she graduated from Erwin High School and attended Asheville-Biltmore College. Mrs. Brinkley was a retired loan officer with First Union Bank, where she worked 25 years. Mrs. Brinkley was an active member of Hominy Baptist Church where she served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and finance officer. She also served on the board of the Buncombe Baptist Association and worked with many other charities and organizations. Surviving are her husband, Donald Lee Brinkley; daughter, Donna Brinkley Mills, son, Samuel Lee Brinkley, grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, and Grace Mills; sister, Mary Pierce Rogers and brother, Thomas Pierce. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hominy Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715.
