Glenn Roy “Rat” Smith, 66, of Candler, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Born October 29, 1954 in Buncombe Co., Glenn was a son of the late LeRoy and Louise Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers.

Surviving is his wife, Patsy Dockery Smith; two sons, Glenn Roy Smith, Jr. and Joey Ray Smith; sister, Joyce Coleman and her husband Tim; and loved by all his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and mother-in-law, Dortha Dockery.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Rev. Ricky Netherton officiating. Burial will follow at Brown’s View Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Uncle Glenn was my favorite uncle and my childhood wouldn’t have been the childhood that it was without him up on Smith Cove.   6. I hate to hear this news. I was behind Rat at the redlight on Patton a few months ago. There was a veteran man in a wheel chair sitting in the turning lane holdi a sign. Rat got out and helped move the man and then gave him some cash. This is how I will always remember Rat, he was always helping with a smile on his face. ♥️

  7. Mr Smith is the father of the man I love. I am sorry I never got to meet him. My husband is broken that he can not be there for his family. I am sorry for the loss that he and all of you are feeling.
