Grover Richard “Dickey” Vance, 73, of 46 Rangeview Acres, Candler, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at St. Joseph Campus. Mr. Vance was born November 15, 1932, to the late William E. and Beatrice Soesbee Vance. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William E. Vance, Jr. He served in the US Air Force for three years and in the Naval Reserve for four years, and retired from the Electrical Maintenance Department of the Buncombe County School System. Mr. Vance was a member of Enka Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Regenia Wilkey Vance; two daughters, Donna Kaye Vance Godwin and her husband, David, of Candler, and Richelle Vance Chase and her husband, Mark, of Old Fort; four grandchildren, Teah and Brent Godwin and Aaron and Hallie Pike; one great-grandchild, Alexis; two sisters, Zelpha Vance Gnann and her husband, Arthur, of Atlanta, and Louise Vance Hollifield of Candler, and several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Enka Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Brown officiating. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the residence. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Enka Baptist Church, PO Box 219, Enka, NC 28728.

    I miss you alot and love you very much. I know that you are in a much better place now, where the pain a suffering you face no more. It will only be a matter of time when we will all meet again. Until then plese continue to watch over me and help me through the tough times. Help me to do whats right with Alexis and always help her remember her Poppy.     Dicky was a prince of a man and I shall miss him.

    Time is catching up with all of us. But one thing we know for sure; Dicky is in a better place and he isn’t suffering anymore.

  3. Dear Vance family I only got to meet you briefly at Pisgah Manor last week when my Dad was moving in the room with Mr. Vance. He seemed like a very sweet gentleman. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

  9. Dear Vance Family, I remember your husband and father as a very kind and wonderful husband and loving father. He treated me with upmost respect. I have fond mememories on a very snowy night when you took me in after work! My dad(John Queen) thought the world of Donna and family. I do know how all of your feel as both my parents are in heaven now! All of you treated me as one of your family. I think of all of you often. Only God in time will mend a broken heart! You are in my every thought and prayers.
