Harold Gene Cannon, 75, of Liberty Rd., Candler, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Mission Hospital. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Charles H. "Charlie" and June Burgess Cannon. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Joe Cannon. Mr. Cannon was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife, Vava Jean Rogers Cannon; a daughter, Donna Cox and her husband, Jeff; grandchildren Jonathan McCain and wife Brittany, Wendy McCain, Jacob Cox, and Grace Cox; great-granddaughter Sadie McCain; sisters Dorothy "Dot" Cannon, Nancy Penley and husband Kenneth, Carolyn Ray and husband Bruce, Sara Penley and husband Ernie; brothers Bill Cannon and wife Lila, Johnnie Cannon, Robert Cannon, Michael Cannon, and Sam Cannon and wife Deborah; and an uncle, John Burgess. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pole Creek Baptist Church, 96 Snow Hill Church Rd., Candler, NC 28715.

    so sorry to read about Harold in the paper. He came to our family reunion last year and really enjoyed him self. guess he told you about me.   8. Vava and Family, I know that this can not be an easy time for you and my heart breaks for you Vava. Harold was such a wonderful Christian man and one that really knew his Bible. We are blessed to have been able to share our lives and our fellowship with such a good man. He will be missed in our Sunday School Class. I do know that when things happen like this I know that God will carry you until you are able to go on. He is my rock and my sheild, and I know that it won’t be easy.
