Harold Lamar Cox, Sr., 73, of 661 Lakeshore Drive, Asheville, died Friday, December 12, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A native of Gadsden, AL, he was a son of the late Thomas and Lena Mae Cox. Mr. Cox moved to Asheville in August of 1959. He was employed by Bostonian Shoe Corporation and spent 13 years at The Man Store in Asheville before transferring to Roanoke, VA. More recently he worked with Norman Stockton’s of Winston-Salem before retiring in 1992. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Frances Moody Cox; two sons, Harold L. Cox, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Asheville and Gregory Stephen Cox of Charlotte; a brother, John A. Cox of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Jonathan Cox and Laura Corte and her husband Fabrizio, all of Asheville and Lt. Robert Steven Cox and his wife Cynthia of Fayetteville. A private graveside service will be held Sunday at Lewis Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sisters of Mercy Foundation, 445 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.
