Harold Lee Deweese, 82, of 321 New Leicester Hwy., Asheville, died on Friday, February 20, 2009, at Magnolia Health Care Center. A native of Buncombe Co., he was the son of the late Dewey and Pearl West Deweese. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marie Deweese; and brother, Jim Deweese. Mr. Deweese retired as a carpenter, and had been a deputy with the Buncombe Co. Sheriff's Dept. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his sons, Bruce Deweese and wife Jackie, of Arden, Richard Deweese, of South Port, NC, and Carroll Lee Deweese, of Columbia, SC; daughter, Melinda Lohr, of Asheville; sisters, Eula Hoover, and Trula Jordan, both of Delaware, MD; ten grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. A graveside service for Mr. Deweese will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at Dillingham Cemetery, Barnardsville. His family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.

  7. We were saddened to hear of Harold’s death from Mom. I have precious memories of Harold & Joyce & children at Aunt Arie’s house. Bruce, do you remember when Daddy gave you a crew cut like Roger & DuWaine’s?? Saturday night card games?

  8. I am a nurse @ Courtyard Rehab, formally Magnolia. I took care of Mr. Deweese many times, and always enjoyed his sense of humor. Every morning I would ask how he was, and he would reply ‘ I have done better but it cost more’. He was a very nice man. I am very sorry for your loss.
