Harry Franklin Swilling, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Laurels of GreenTree Ridge.

An Asheville native, Harry was a son of the late Glen and Alice Louise Bell Swilling. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Buster Bell Swilling and William Max Swilling.

Mr. Swilling proudly served his country in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Air Force. Harry was known for his work ethic. Upon returning from serving his country, he went to work for Southern Bell and later AT&T. He retired from both. He started Asheville Wire & Communication, which he owned and operated through 2010.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Sullins (David); son, Richard Swilling; grandchildren, Jamie, Samantha, and Tyler; sister, Marian Piercy; and special niece, Sheri Smith (Van).

The graveside service for Mr. Swilling will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, at Lewis Memorial Park.

  3. Love and will miss my Uncle Harry. Made a lot of good memories with him during my visits to Asheville and our family vacations at the Sweetwater Cabin in the Ocala National Forest. Sending love and prayers to all of the family.
