Asheville - Hazel P. Miller, 81, of Braddock Way, died peacefully at her home Thursday, December 26, 2002. Born in Columbia, SC, and raised in Rutherfordton, NC, she was a daughter of the late Thomas R. and Annie Wilson Phillips. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville and for the past 39 years co-owner, with her husband Wilbur, of Miller’s Jewelry Store. In addition to her husband, Wilbur, she is survived by two sons, Louis K. Miller, and his wife Kathy, of West Asheville, and their sons, Kirk, Matthew and Joseph; and Stephen P. Miller, his wife Debbie, of Asheville, and their daughters, Stephanie and Michelle. She is also survived by two sisters, Juanita Robertson of Raleigh, Eva Smith of Bedford, Virginia; and three brothers, Willie Phillips of Statesville, Bob Phillips of Orlando, Fla., and Horace Phillips of Charlotte. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles. Private interment will be in Lewis Memorial Park. Hazel’s family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and would like to thank her many friends for their love and support. Hazel considered herself truly blessed by the friendships she and Wilbur made at the jewelry store. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  1. She will be missed greatly by myself and all at the Electronic Office. She was always able to make a cloudy day sunny with just a smile.

  4. I Know that Mrs. Miller will greatly be missed but, she is in a better place and in no more pain. Everyone that she came into contact with was blessed to know her.
