Asheville, NC ~ Henry Joe Britt, Sr., 84, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Joe H. and Laura Mae Bivens Britt. He was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, serving during W.W. II and a 50 year member of Central United Methodist Church. He was a member of Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge #118 and the Oasis Shrine. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jamison Britt; daughter, Carol B. Porter, and her husband Jim, of Wilmington, NC; son, Henry Joe Britt, Jr. of Parkersburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Revs. Christen H. Matlick and Joe Fulk. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, Meals on Wheels, 146 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC 28801, or to your favorite charity.
