Rev. Henry M. King, Jr., 89, of 12-E Wesley Drive, Givens Estates, Asheville, died Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at his home.

Rev. King was born in Henderson County and was married to Bonnie Mae Williamson King who died in 1970 and to Flora Belle King who died in 1998. He was a graduate of Duke University Divinity School.

He retired after twenty-five years in sales with the Jewel Tea Company before beginning his ministry in the Western North Carolina United Methodist Conference. His first pastorates were in Marshall, Walnut and Weaverville and also served in Fairview, Bethel and Rosman. More recently he pastored at Reeves Chapel United Methodist Church and his last appointment was at South French Broad United Methodist Church in Asheville. He was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Candler Lions Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Clontz and her husband Bill of Wilmington; one son, Sam L. King and his wife Wanda of Candler; and three grandchildren, Terri Clontz and Michael Clontz of Raleigh and Kimberly Dawn King of Candler.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. H.D. Houck officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

    We were sorry to hear about your dad. I will never forget the time I went with you and Uncle Bill to his house and Mike and I stayed in the basement the whole time playing with the race cars. That was years ago.
