Howard Grover Ward, 65, of North Turkey Creek, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James Britt and Gladys Davis Ward. He was also preceded in death by his sister Helen Dills, and brother, J.D. Ward. Mr. Ward is survived by loving wife, Wanda Jones Ward; son Brandon Ward and fiancé Meredith; siblings, Jimmy Ward, Eddie Ward, and Linda Ward, and special sons, Brandon Morgan and Jesse Swain. Howard retired from UPS after 30 years service and was a veteran of 28 years with the U.S. Army Reserve retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. He was also a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with the Revs. Ricky Wolfe and Norris Wright officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment with military honors will be at 10:00 am Monday July 22, 2013 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated and accepted or memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church.

    • I may have not seen him but Howard is with my great grandfather J.D Ward and Helen Ward I was showed there quartet on YouTube and I been watching ever since I was showed the Ward Brothers Quartet J.D is Howard older brother and Helen the oldest

  27. I am on vacation and missed the funeral. Howard and I walked many miles through the Ft Bragg woods and I will always remember the days and nights at Bragg and other installations. To the entire family, we will all miss ‘Gubber’. Larry Davis CSM USA Retired.

  58. Sorry to have missed Howard’s funeral -we were out of town. Howard was loved by all who knew him. His family was everything to him. Next was the family he was from, then his reserve family and finally his UPS family. Howard would give the shirt off his back to his family, whichever one that might be. I served with him over 20 yrs in the Atmy reserves. He loved and took care of his soldiers better than anyone I knew. I will deeply miss him. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord.
