Howard William Franklin, 84, of 295 Webb Cove Road, Fairview, died Friday, September 20, 2002, in an Asheville hospital.
Mr. Franklin was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Troy Markis and Peggy Pinkerton Franklin. He was also preceded in death by his wife Reba Duckett Franklin who died in 1999, and by a brother, Troy M. Franklin, Jr.
He was an Army veteran of WW II and was retired from Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries. He and his wife were active in the Foster Parent program and they helped raise 40 children. He was a former Citizen-Times “Father of the Year”.
Surviving are four sisters, Edna Harris, Edith Williams, Mary Kuykendall, and Maud Hill and her husband Harvey, all of Fairview.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm Monday at Emmas Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Todd Royal officiating.
His family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the home of his sister, Edna Harris, 53 Harris Road, Fairview.
