Hugh A. Travis, 80, of 11 Crestview Street, Asheville, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville.Mr. Travis was born in Thomasville, GA, and was a son of the late Albert Hugh and Nelle Cook Travis.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Strickland.  He was raised in Asheville and was an Army Air Corps veteran of WW II.  He lived in the Washington, DC, area for many years and worked for the Government Printing Office for 31 years.  He transferred over to the US Senate where he worked for several more years until retiring in 1977.  He returned to Asheville in 1994 where he was a member of the Oakley United Methodist Church.He is survived by his wife, Barbara H. Travis;  three daughters, Geraldine McClanahan of Prince Frederick, MD, Brenda Charlene Rosenberger of Lusby, MD, and Marguerite McClanahan of Asheville;  three sons, David Ross Travis of Providencetown, MA, Stephen Albert Travis of Lusby, MD, and Kenneth William Travis of Silver Spring, MD;  two sisters, Audrey Mendez of Asheville and Lena Lyle of Waynesville;   21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday at Oakley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Hileman officiating.  Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Oakley United Methodist Church.
