D. Hugh McIntyre, Sr., 75, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center following a brief illness. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Robert F. and Mayme Garrett McIntyre. Hugh was a graduate of Leicester High School and Blanton's Business College. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked as a freight sales rep for many years. He also formerly served as a court officer and bailiff for the Buncombe County Sheriff Dept. Hugh was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was active in the Men's Club. He was a charter member of the Leicester VFD. Hugh loved sports and was an avid Nascar and Carolina Tarheel fan. He is survived by his wife, Marie S. McIntyre of the home; a daughter, Mitzi McIntyre of Charlotte; a son, David McIntyre, Jr. of Leicester; two granddaughters, Jamie Brickler and Jerica McIntyre, both of Asheville; a brother, R.F. McIntyre of Atlanta, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jody Boone Campbell and Fred C. Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 516 Newfound Road, Leicester, NC 28748. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

  13. I knew Hugh well and considered him a friend of mine. We knew each other back when he worked with Fredrickson Motor Lines and I worked for Mason Dixson I know he will be missed by all his friends and family. A good Man.

  16. I went to school with David from 1-12th grade and it was very evident that he looked up to his Dad. My brother, Travis lives across the road from the McIntyres and even their 4 yr old son Bryson loved him. At Christmastime he wanted to go take ‘Hu and Mawee’ a present.

  17. I really enjoyed the time i got to spend with Hugh. he and i went to BLET together in 1991 and both worked in Asheville. I am truly sorry for your loss but to think where he is now!!!! I pray that God will comfort you during your time of need.
