Hugh Milfred Parker, 90, of West Asheville, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008.
Born in West Asheville on November 29, 1917, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Nancy Rogers Parker. Hugh was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Smith Parker; a sister, Pauline Boyd and a brother, Lewis Parker.
Survivors include a daughter, Dena C. Gettleman and husband David of Asheville; a son, Hugh M. Parker, Jr. and wife Lynn Hampton Parker of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Nicole L. Bradley and husband Adam of Nashville, Samuel P. Gettleman of Asheville, Joshua M. Parker of Istanbul, Turkey and Sean C. Parker of Chapel Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Richard Baird officiating.
His family will receive friends following the service and request that memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church, 718 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806 or to ABCCM, 30 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.

I had lunch with your Dad at The Tastee Diner just before Christmas. He was such a sweet man. He was a fixture here in West Asheville for a long time. May God get glory as He comforts you and Lynn and the family during these days. Dale & Judy Robinson
