Ida Mae Melton McElrath, 89, died Monday,
Sept. 28, 1998, in a local nursing home.
A native of Buncombe County, she was the
daughter of the late James Asbury and Mary Etta
Bradley Melton and wife of the late James
Pinkney McElrath, Sr. who died in 1973. She
was also preceded in death by a daughter,
Louise Ray, three sons, Roy, Charles and James
P. McElrath, Jr. and a grandson, Eugene
Massey. She was retired from Beacon
Manufacturing Co.
She is survived by three daughters, Mildred
Massey of Skyland, Marie Creasman of Asheville
and Faye Chrisman of Erwin, Tenn.; a son,
Robert McElrath of Asheville; 21 grandchildren;
and 28 great-grandchildren and a number of
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in the
chapel of Groce Funeral Home conducted by the
Rev. Bobby Arrowood. Interment will be in Berea
Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
