Asheville – Irene Juanita Riddle, 98, of Asheville, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at the John F. Keever Jr Hospice Solace Center. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Grover and Ethel Robertson Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernie R. Riddle, who died in 2002, as well as two sisters, Chloe Riddle and Ruth Gladfelter. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who adored her family and will be missed by those who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Lois Minish of Asheville and Joyce Cordell and her husband, Bill, of Asheville; one son, Ken Riddle and his wife, Sandra, of Fountain Inn, SC; one sister, Linda Rutkowski of MI; three brothers, Reece Bailey of Burnsville, Ben Bailey of Simpsonville, SC and Harold Bailey of Asheville; seven grandchildren, Travis Riddle, Erin Williams, Chuck Minish, Kevin Minish, Traci Ray, Dana Sprouse and Jenny Hepler; eighteen great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Rev. Dr. Ian Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Churchyard. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks to please consider a memorial contribution in Irene's memory to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  5. I love you and miss you sweet Nanny. I can’t wait to see you again someday. I hate that I couldn’t make it to see you, but I know that you understand. I’m so glad that I got to know my great-grandparents and was fortunate enough to get to spend such a long time with each of them. I will cherish those moments forever.
