Asheville ~ Jack “Jackie” Conrad Roberts, 63, of Marietta Street, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Roberts was born in Buncombe county and was son of the late Clyde and Lillie Dotson Roberts and was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Crystal Verdin. He was employed by the Biltmore Estate. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Bertie Wade Roberts of Asheville; a daughter, Cynthia Verdin and husband Manuel of Fletcher; five children by previous marriage; a granddaughter, Angel Verdin of Fletcher; a brother, Jimmy Roberts and wife Francis of Weaverville; three aunts and one uncle. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with Rev. Willie Warren officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Skyview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
