Resided in: Asheville, NC

Jack Rex Davis, 81, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, peacefully, and at home after an extended and hard fought battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the loving husband of Peggy A. Davis with whom they shared 35 years of marriage. Born in West Asheville, NC, he was the son of Jerome Jack and Janette Miller Davis. He graduated from Sandhills High School and went on to attend and graduate from Duke University with a BS Degree in Forestry and a Master’s degree in Wood Technology. He spent his working years enjoying and managing all the nuances of furniture manufacturing - with the bulk of his career spent with Lane Furniture Company and until his retirement from Henkel Harris Furniture. From an early age, he enjoyed sports, and the outdoors and activities that the mountains of Western North Carolina offered and where he and Peggy chose to retire. He remained a loyal Duke Blue Devil fan throughout his years (especially basketball) and shared that love among family members. He was active in real estate investing for much of his adult life and continued developing and managing properties through his retirement. He was a loving family man and enjoyed quality visits with the family in Asheville or wherever his children and grandchildren resided. He is survived by wife, Peggy A Davis of Asheville, NC, sister Wanda D. Peek and her husband Neal of Candler, NC, six children: daughter Jenni Stackhouse and her husband John of Ponte Vedra, FL, daughter Susan Perry and her husband Mike of Winchester, VA, daughter Debbie Shough and her husband Steve of Clemmons, NC, son Tom Davis and his wife Marlene of Bunker Hill, WV, son Jeff Cranford and his wife Melissa of Boca Raton, FL, and son John Cranford and Josh Floyd of Asheville. He had six grandchildren: Megan, Wil, Rory, Josh, Sean, and Katie as well as eight great grandchildren: Payton, Huntsen, Issie, Isla, Edith, Derrick, Ferman, and Kate. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Larry Davis. The family would like to recognize and thank Pam McDonald and Autumn Blevins for their untiring faithfulness, devotion, and care. There will be a private gathering for family and friends at the home beginning at 12:00 pm on Monday, November 20, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be made to Care Partners Hospice and specifically to their Music Therapy program, which he so enjoyed these last few weeks. The address is PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
