Jack Roy Marlowe

Jack Roy Marlowe of 51 S. Bear Creek Road, Asheville, died Friday, August 6, 1999, at his home with his wife and companion of 50 years holding his hand.

Mr. Marlowe was the son of the late Nel Matthews Gara and Roy Lee Marlowe.  He was a member of Malvern Hills Prebyterian
Church and a charter member of the Asheville Ski Club.

He was a man of principle and integrity and his love of family was the most important part of his life.  Next to his family, he enjoyed
golf and skiing and the company of his many friends.

He was a member of the 91st Bomb Group during WW II and a ball turret gunner in B-17’s with 33 missions over occupied Germany.  He was awarded the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters and three Bronze Stars.  He was retired after
40 years with Sears.

He is survived by his wife,
Bubbles Jones Marlowe;  two daughters, Bethany Marlowe-Cox of Washington, DC and Cathy Marlowe-Reichel of Orlando, FL;  a son, Timothy Ralph Marlowe of Pineville, NC;  two brothers-in-law,
David Dobbs Britt of Blacksburg, VA and Charles Robin Britt of Greensboro;  a sister, Betty  Kelley of Asheville;  a brother, Gilbert Marlowe of Asheville and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 4:00 pm Monday in the Patton
Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Johnson officiating.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service
at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made
to Thoms Rehabilitation Hospital.

  2. We are so very sorry we missed being with the Family again. We missed the joyous 50th Anniversary and now the sad reunion of the family again. Tim, Beth,Cathy and Robin there are fond memories of your years at Malvern Hills, camp Hope. Your Father left you wonderful memories to be proud of. We love you all.

  4. What a wonderful man Jack was. I was ‘in love’ with him as a teenage while babysitting his childern, and that love has grown over the years as he and Bubbles became such good friends to my parents, Billie and Ray Nichols. We will always have our fond memories of Jack to remind us over the years of this wonderful man.
