James B. West, Jr., 60, of Asheville, died Monday, December 14, 2015.
He was a son of Esther Rice Johnson and of the late James B. West, Sr.
Surviving in addition to his mother and stepfather, Carl Johnson, is his best friend, Ralph Hayes; sisters Vicki Johnson and Rene Meadows; brothers, Ronnie West and Jackie West; and beloved nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Rice officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Green Hills Cemetery.

I am so sorry for your loss. Jim was such a fun and funny guy. He taught me how to pairs dance and how to bartend at Asheville Country Club. He and Ralph were my good friends and protectors. Thank you Jim for all the memories.

I have always loved you so much. You are a friend beyond measure. You have a wonderful family and knowing you is one of the highest highlights in my life. I am going to miss you terribly. I knew Jimmy most of my life. He was my sweetheart for much of my young life. He was the best man I knew and we remained friends always. I know he is with Jesus now and we will see him again. I pray that God brings comfort to your hearts. I love you all.

With a broken heart I want to say Jimmy ILove You. My brother ,friend, our rock and my protector. This work lost one of the most generous ,caring,loving person that I know. My brother my life was made so much better by you being in it. For now I say good-bye until we are united again.
One of the nicest people I ever knew has gone home. played a mean piano. Anytime I asked him to play for me he would. Missed him when I left Midway. Never met another person like him. Esther you did a fantastic job and I know he will be waiting in Heaven for you and me and we’ll sing together again someday. Remember when he gave the Bassett named Doodles with the backward feet. Oh the memories.

Esther and family I am so sorry for your loss of a very special loved one. Esther is just like a mother to me , I have known Esther and worked with her for 20 years.she always was so happy when all her family would get together for special occasions. Esther loves all her children so much she would just light up when talking about all there get togethers. My heart aches for you Esther’to lose a child is something no one would ever know how it is unless they have been through this sad time. With Esther’s faith she knows this is just a temporary separation from Jimmy. Jimmy came by his mothers work on her birthday Dec1 and brought her the most beautiful flowers and a cake , and Esther was so excited to take him around and show him and her gifts to everyone.The special love of a mother beemed through her smile. I love you Esther you are a very special friend and I love all your family. My prayers are with each and everyone of you let me know if I can do anything. I miss you at work but you rest Esther and I will see you when you get back’
