James Devero Hipps

June 15, 1917 ~ April 2, 1999
James D. Hipps, 81, of 106 Riverview Drive, Asheville, died Friday, April 2, 1999.
Mr. Hipps was born in Jackson County and was a son of the late Capius Franklin and Nannie Gorner Hipps. He was an Army veteran of WWII, a retired tile setter, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by six daughters, Hazel Lipe of Asheville, Barbara Hyder of Liberty, SC, Rose Marie Hipps of Tennessee, and Julia Ann Lanning, Yvonne Wells, and Frances Hipps, all of Asheville; four sons, Herschell Hipps, J. D. Hipps, and James Gann of Asheville and Denny Hipps of Travelers Rest, SC; two sisters, Emily Autrey of Asheville and Virginia Young of Easley, SC; thirty grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren. He was also the father of James W. Hipps.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Welborn officiating.
His family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Its been several years since you passed papaw but we still miss and love you very much. I miss coming by to see you and seeing you sitting in your chair smiling when I pull up. I hope to see you again one day in heaven we love you.
