James Harold Clodfelter of Asheville, formerly of Knoxville, TN, Arlington and Alexandria, VA, died Sunday, September 25, 2005, at Mission Hospital. He was 89. Born October 27, 1915, in Asheville, he was the son of the late James Franklin and Beulah Franklin Clodfelter. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Frances Winn Clodfelter; a brother, Frank Clodfelter; two sisters, Frances Lockett and Mildred Bradley. A veteran of WWII, he served with the 4th Marine Division in the South Pacific before being honorably discharged on May 14, 1946. While living in Knoxville he was employed by the Knoxville News Sentinal moving in 1958 to Arlington VA where he worked at the Washington Post until his retirement. After re-locating to Asheville he met again and married his former high school sweetheart, Pauline Bartlett. Survivors include his wife of eight years, Pauline Bartlett Bell Clodfelter; a daughter, Mary Frances Edwards and her husband Barney of Knoxville; grandsons, Terrell Edwards and his wife Penny of Knoxville, Mark Edwards and his wife Brenda of Holland, OH and Christopher Edwards of Fort Mill, SC; three great-grandsons, Jacob, Jonathan and Samuel of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Anne Clodfelter of Hendersonville and special friends, Kim and Alvin Hoyle. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Father Charles Taylor and the Reverend Sonja Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with son-in-law, Barney Edwards, grandsons, Terrell, Mark and Christopher Edwards and step-sons, Charles and Dan Bell serving as pallbearers. His family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to the Asheville Humane Society, 72 Lee’s Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
