Arden ~ James G. "Jim" Lynch, 53, died Monday, July 7, 2003 in a local hospital. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late James William Lynch and Gussie Couch Lynch. He was a US Navy veteran and retired from the US Naval Reserves. He was a former member of the Fletcher Kiwanis Club and former Chief of the Skyland Fire Department. He attended the First Baptist Church of Asheville and previously attended Arden Presbyterian Church. He was Director of Operations with Asheville Regional Airport. Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson Lynch; daughter, Kristen Courtney Lynch of Wilmington; son, Christopher Seth Lynch, and his wife Stacy, of Allen, Texas and his brother, G. Scott Lynch of Arden. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins, including John Couch, and his wife, Diana of Asheville. A memorial graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, July 11th, at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard with Rev. P. Ollis Revels officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. His family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 College Place, Bldg. C, Suite 100, Asheville, NC 28801, the Skyland Fire Department, P.O. Box 640, Skyland, Nc 28776, or to the American Red Cross, 100 Edgewood Road, Asheville, NC 28804.

    I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jim Lynch a number of times since I’ve known his son, Seth. Seth and I have been close friends ever since I’ve known him from our time in the Army a number of years ago through his wedding with Stacy. They have been and will always be close to my heart.     I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Jim when I was an adjuster with Crawford and Company. I handled several claims at the airport.

    You were so compassionate in the recent death of my father-in-law, Graham Davis. For that, I am very grateful.

  5. Jim has been such a true inspiration to us all. We have all gained so much character through his humor and spirit as he met the challenges he endured head-on! Through his leadership, his legacy will lives on! What a blessing Jim’s friendship has been. Our prayers for inner peace go out to Barb, Seth, and Kristen.   14. I became active in the Fire Service in 1977 and remember Jim as inspiration to continue in this profession. I worked with him later as the Asheville Fire Marshal during his time at the Airport. I’ll miss him and my prayers are with you.

  19. I worked with Jim at the Asheville Airport. I enjoyed the short time I knew him (November 2002). He had great knowledge of the airport and it’s operations and I was able to learn alot from him. He shared many memories with me and we have the same sense of humor! Thanks Jim, will see you again one day! 🙂
