Resided in:
Asheville, NC
James "Jim" Walker Hart, Sr., 77 of Asheville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2015.
A native of Johnston, SC, he was a son of the late Claude Walker Hart and Mattie Lou Wright Hart. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Hart Marsh.
He grew up in Johnston, SC and graduated from Johnston High School. During high school, he worked as a "soda jerk" at Maxwell & Halford Drug Store. After high school, he attended business college and began his career in sales that spanned 57 years. The bulk of his career, almost 30 years, was spent with Geer Drug Company with territories in North and South Carolina. Following his retirement with Geer, he worked for Machinery & Equipment and Dixie Industrial Supply Companies. He then co-owned and operated two TCBY yogurt stores. Next, he owned and operated Blue Ridge Closets with his son. Lastly, he and his son were working together at Hart Insurance, where he was still actively involved. His work enabled him to do what he loved, which was to interact with people and make new friends.
He was a member and active Elder at Arden Presbyterian Church, a former member of the South Carolina National Guard, and a volunteer with Eblen Charities. He enjoyed surf fishing, hunting, being at the beach, and anything that involved his grandchildren. He was a strong Christian man and a strong family man. He loved watching ACC basketball with the same group of family and friends for over forty years in his "Wolfpack Den". He enjoyed cheering on his children and grandchildren in whatever they were doing - he rarely missed a game or event that they were participating in.
He is survived by the "love of his life" of 51 years, Sara Raines Hart; one son, James Walker Hart, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Flat Rock; one daughter, Beth Hart Tisdale and her husband, Matt, of Asheville; three grandsons, John, Will and Tanner; one sister, Peggy Hart; one brother, William Hart; and two brother-in-laws, Ken Marsh and Joe Raines, Jr.; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Arden Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Arden Presbyterian Church-Mercy Ministries, 2215 Hendersonville Road, Arden, NC 28704 or to Eblen Charities, 50 Westgate Parkway, Asheville, NC 28806.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family and a memorial register is available at www.grocefuneralhome.com

Blessings of peace and comfort be with everyone in the Hart and Tisdale families at this very sad time. My heart aches as we say goodbye, for the moment, to our precious friend, Jim. I am a better person having known him. What a legacy he has left for us all. With deepest simpathy, Nanette
We are sorry to hear about your loss of Jim. We pray God will be with you all. Jim was such a wonderful person. He always had such a great smile. We were so blessed to have known him. He was such a blessing every time we saw him. We will keep you all in our prayers.
May God provide you and your family with peace and ‘the comfort from the Scriptures’? during this difficult time. (Romans 15:4) The Bible shares a wonderful resurrection hope for future. I pray that you find comfort in the wonderful promises of John 5:28, 29 and Acts 24:15
Our prayers, thoughts and comfort are with all of you. Our family is blessed to have known and interacted with Jim and the family in the neighborhood for 20 years. Sometimes in life we are fortunate to rub shoulders with greatness. Jim Hart was not a political figure nor was he MVP of the super bowl but he was one of the greatest men we have met. His greatness consisted of his love for God, his family, his friends and for his service. Truly, he was a great man to know and to love. We are thankful for our time together. Gods love, comfort and strength to each of you.
So sorry for your loss. We are praying for all the family.
Thoughts and prayers with you and your family, Sara!! So sorry for your loss!!
Mrs. Hart and family,
Andrew and I are so sorry for the loss of Mr. Hart. He was a great man. I will miss seeing the two of you come in for you exams.
Sara…..So sorry to hear about ‘Jimmy’. We just found out today. Mama and Daddy always thought so much of you both, and always enjoyed your visits when you were down this way. Stuart and I are carrying on with the Christmas Tree Farm. You are in our prayers!! Love you!
Mrs. Hart, Beth, and Walker, I was so very sorry to hear about your loss, but even during these difficult days, I know that you are also celebrating his long and wonderful life. When I think back to middle and high school – and growing up in Arden Presbyterian Church – there were just a handful of families whose parents were ALWAYS there supporting, helping, guiding, teaching, coaching, and ‘cheerleading’ everything all of us kids were doing. It’s amazing how many ways ‘Jim’ was present and contributing in those moments – and how many lives were enriched through contact with such a thoughtful and caring man. My thoughts are with you and the rest of your family – especially during this holiday season.
Hart family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of coping. Jim was a wonderful friend and neighbor. I enjoyed passing on our walks and catching up while Kirby could warm up to a new friend. Jim will be greatly missed
