She then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Carolina University in 1999 at age 52. She worked as an Operating Room Nurse at the St. Joseph's campus of Mission Hospitals for over twenty years.
In addition to her mother of Sumter, South Carolina, she is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Jane Rogerson of Santa Cruz, California and Carmen Anne Anderson of East Flat Rock; one grandson, the pride and joy of her life, Luke Washington Anderson; her only sister, Anne (Guy) Fountain of Lawrenceville, Georgia and her four nephews, Timothy Price of Washington, D.C., John (Cindy) Price of Monroe, Georgia, Todd Price of Miami, Florida, and Chris (Ashley) Price of Lawrenceville, Georgia. The family would like to thank the numerous friends who lovingly cared for her during her illness, especially her former husband John Edward Rogerson III.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 4:00 pm, at Groce Funeral Home Chapel, 1401 Patton Avenue, West Asheville. The family will receive friends at Groce from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm immediately prior to the service, and at other times at the family home.
The family requests that memorials be made to CarePartners Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813; or online at www.carepartnersfoundation.org, so that others may receive the same excellent care and extraordinary compassion Jane received.

Jane was a wonderful, fun-loving, vibrant, strong woman. She had so many friends and was loved by one and all, because she was just the kind of person you wanted to be with. Her soft Southern drawl, beautiful smile and infectious laugh will always be with me.
I’ll miss Jane’s emails with ‘Luke stories’ and funny or uplifting messages, and updates about Teresa and Carmen’s accomplishments. She was so very proud of all of you.
She is going to be sorely missed by her many friends and hospital associates, but she is now at peace and pain-free after a long and difficult struggle.
Teresa and Carmen, and Johnny, know that you, as well as Jane, have been in my prayers. I want you to know how much I care about you, too.
Carmen,
As I read the beautiful comments on this web page about your mother I realize where you get your vibrant personality from. I have always told you that you could make a grouchy person smile with your laugh. Hold on to the memories of your moms pride in you for following in her footsteps in your nursing career. I am a phone call away and will continue to keep you in my prayers.
Love
Teri
To Johnny and Jane’s children,
My twin sister, Jane and I, grew up with Jane in South Carolina. We were close childhood friends until our graduation from High School separated us all. Jane was at the top of our class at Hillcrest High School and we all looked up to her. She was leader even at that young age with a determination to become a nurse. We are so sorry to hear of your loss and send you our deepest sympathy. Johnny, I remember you as that handsome young man Jane loved so and remember how you took care of me on my first plane flight to Atlanta. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you today.

To the family of Jane Hatcher,
My heart was truly saddened with this news. Having known Jane since we were eleven, I knew then, I had a very special friend in her, and she never proved me wrong. What a kind and gentle spirit, with wisdom beyond her years, and a love for life and laughter. The wonderful times we shared will remain with me forever. I am so grateful that I was able to visit with Jane in August, meet you beautiful daughters, see Anne and sons, Mrs. Ruby, and reunite with the rest of the family who I had not seen in years. Teresa and Carmen, I don’t have to tell you of the greatness of your mother, for I know you shared it and will continue to throughout your lives, as I will. Her spirit will forever be with us. How I would love to be with you all today, but as I sit here in Sumter, with this incredible sadness in my heart, I’m also experiencing a great joy, awaiting my first grandchild’s birth, and knowing that Jane and I will pick up our friendship someday and share our moments forever. Love to all.
Carmen & Teresa,
Heartfelt sympathy and much love to you, our friends, as you go through this difficult time. Jane was such a beautiful lady! She spoke so often about you girls and loved you both so very much. She was so excited when Luke was born. She said he was the most beautiful baby in the world. Her joy over that baby was overflowing. I have a picture of my girls when they were 2 years old looking out the bedroom window at Jane working in her flower garden. May your loving memories help sustain you in the days to come. Remember that Jane is not in the past, she is in the future-fully alive in heaven . We love you guys and will continue to pray for you.

Jane and I became the best of friends in elementary school, and she will always have a special place in my heart. We grew up together, and shared every event in our lives thru all of our school years. I am so sad to hear that she has passed away, and that we did not have one last visit to express our love for each other. She was always smarter, had more boy friends, and could beat me at any sport, but the best friend anyone could ever have. She will truly be missed by all who new her, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this sad time.
Carmen,
My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family at this time. I hope that you find peace and comfort. I am here for you if you need anything. Take care of you!!!
Love & Prayers,
