Janet Hamilton Kriek, of Chestnut Ridge Road, Arden, died Sunday at an Asheville hospital after a long illness. She was 65.

Born in Clinton, MA, she grew up in Princeton, MA. She attended the Bancroft School in Worcester, MA, and was a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, ME., where she obtained her BA degree in history.

Since her marriage in 1959, she resided in Asheville where she was involved in numerous community activities. She took part in Various projects at Carolina Day School, and was a member of the Junior League of Asheville. In conjunction with the Junior League and Dr. Lucia Karnes, she founded a summer camp for children with dyslexia. The camp was held on the campus of Christ School in Arden, and operated in the 1970's. In more recent years, she enjoyed a career as a real estate agent for Beverly Hanks and Associates.

She is survived by her husband, Albert P. Kriek, her son, Douglas Hamilton Kriek, her sister, Patricia H. Bullock, her brother, Charles R. Hamilton, her neices, Michelle Yanik, Jennifer Fenn and Emily Bullock and her nephews, Tynan A. Wait and Bruce H. Fenn.

Memorial services will be held at the Cathederal of All Souls on Tuesday, January 4th at 12:30 pm, with the Reverend Augusta Rowe officiating. Interment will be at the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Princeton, MA. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of arrangements.
