Jared Luke Tonnessen

September 27, 1973 ~ October 8, 2013
Resided in:
Candler, NC
The world lost a beacon of light on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Jared Luke Tonnesen, age 40, was born in New Jersey on September 27, 1973, and spent much of his young life in New Jersey and Colorado.
A beloved artist, Jared's talents as a sketch artist, sculptor, and painter were as extraordinary as they were unconventional. His talents were highly regarded in many artists circles on the East Coast.
Jared received Jesus into his heart in April, 2011. Although not ordained, Jared fully embodied what it truly is to be a minister of the Gospel of Christ. With a chefs touch, he diligently prepared meals each day for the Hominy Baptist Childcare, Daystay Adult Daycare, Daily Bread, and Wednesday nightmeals at Hominy Baptist Church. On Sundays, Jared would have pockets stuffed with candy. One by one, the kids would approach this shy man for sweet treats. Through his giving, the congregation and its visitors were treated to a glimpse of a servant's heart. His talents exceeded cooking and art; he was a skilled musician and played bass for the church praise band.
He is survived by his loving mother, Marianne Prokop, sister, Ilyssa Sky Tonnessen and beloved nieces, Ada and Anais, all from High Point, NC. His brother, Derich Heath, currently residing in California. In Colorado he leaves behind his father, Rick and Step-Mother Kathy Tonnessen and brothers Jacob and Gabriel. Surviving in New Jersey are his devoted Grandmother, Columbia "Mu-Mu" Prokop, Aunt Philadelphia "Tina" Prokop and Uncle and Aunt Steven and Sharon and two cousins, Cynthia and Sandra. He joins now in Heaven his doting Grandfather, Nicholas who predeceased him many years ago.
He is also survived by his fiance, Rosemary Yelton and his second family Joe, Corinne, and Jacob Yelton, and Mary Helderman all of Candler.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Road, Candler. Private interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial gifts are appreciated. Recommended designations would be: Flynn Recovery Center in Morganton or to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Checks should be made to Hominy Baptist Church, earmarked with your desired designation.

Jared was a gentle soul. You will probably be in charge of painting a few beautiful sunrises and sunsets…can’t wait to see a couple. You will be deeply missed.
To all the Yelton family and all members of Jared’s family…We pray God will give you courage, strength and a peace that only God can give, during this difficult time.
