Jean Wagner Cole

Jean Wagner Cole, 85, of Arden, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

A native of Asheville, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Elma Pinkerton Wagner. She was preceded in death by husband of 68 years, Herbert Cole, Sr.

Jean was a retired bookkeeper. She loved her church, Skyland United Methodist. She was a Sunday School teacher and was very close with her small group. A prayer warrior for her church, family and friends and will be missed by all. Jean was a long time member of ABWA and spent many years quilting with some of her closest friends. Megan was lucky enough to have Nana teach her how to sew.

Jean is survived by her son, Bert Cole (Sandy); daughter, Leslie Barnes (Dennis); granddaughter, Megan Palmer (Jared); and three great-grandchildren: Brycen, Callie, and Jase. She also has many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her close friends and neighbors for all the many things you did for Jean – we love you.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler. The Rev. Joy Moss, Skyland United Methodist Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elizabeth House, 581 S Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731, or to one’s favorite charity.
