Jeanne Silver Coffey

Jeanne Ann Silver Corn Coffey, 82, went to her eternal home Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Mission Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Coffey was born October 15, 1938 in Madison County to the late Willie Conley and Ellen Lee Allen Silver. She and her twin sister, Jo Ellen, were graciously and generously raised and loved by their aunt and uncle, Theodore Wesley and Annie Mae Corn, in Weaverville, NC after the death of their mother shortly after their birth. She was a member of Pine Burr Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Leonard Silver, Maxine Silver Wills, Allon Silver and twin sister Jo Ellen Parris.

She is survived, loved and adored by her husband, Frank William “Bill” Coffey; daughters, Sherry Cook (Bruce) and Diana Roland, and son Darrell Coffey (Shannan); grandchildren, Matthew Bartlett (Meagan), Joshua Roland and Alisha Nesbitt (Ike); great-grandchildren, Dawson Roland, Harrison Nesbitt, Hattie Ruth Bartlett and Georgia Lane Nesbitt; brother, Conley Silver (Catherine); sisters, Judy Lynn Ward (Stanley) and Sylvia Joyce Silver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was a devoted, kind, caring and compassionate daughter, sister, wife, mother, grand- and great grandmother. She cherished her family and friends above all else on earth. She was always quick with a warm comforting smile and words of support and encouragement. She had such a unique way of being strong and gentle in the same moment for anyone who needed a shoulder to lean on. She possessed purity, innocence, love and wisdom in all their gentle manifestations.

Jeanne also devoted 28 years professionally to the education and development of special needs children at Lucy Herring School in Buncombe County. She adored her children and second family there. She was also an avid supporter and volunteer for Special Olympics.

She and her twin sister, Jo, were both inducted into the North Buncombe High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 for outstanding athletic achievements while they were in high school and received honorable mention for their many years of service since to education, students and their communities.

She loved to travel the world with her twin sister, Jo, and occasionally with other family members and friends. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii and her second favorite was Austria when they went on the “Sound of Music” tour. She always enjoyed and was involved in arts and crafts and her latest hobby and passion was quilting, completing 75 quilts of many colors and various designs.

For those who wish to pay their respects, Mrs. Coffey will lie in repose at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan 21st .
