JIMMIE R. ALLEN WEST ASHEVILLE - Jimmie Richard Allen, 73, of 74 Delaware Avenue, Asheville, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at the John F. Keever Jr. Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Allen was born in the Upper Hominy section of Buncombe County and he was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked for Skyland Distributing Co. and more recently worked for and retired from Thomas and Howard Wholesale Grocer. He was married to Martha Sue Jarrett Allen, who died in 2007. Mr. Allen is survived by one son, Richard Allen and his wife, Kelly, of Asheville; one daughter, Deborah Lakowicz and her husband, Richard, of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Jessica Brown, Ashley and Ryan Lakowicz, Kim Lacey and husband, Wes, and Crystal Allen; and five great-grandchildren, Cloe' Allen, Maddie, J.D., Colin and Conner Brown. The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at Pisgah View Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin, CarePartners Hospice chaplain. The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.
