Joan Jarvis Calvin

Joan Jarvis Calvin, 85, died Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the CarePartners Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, Joan was a daughter of the late Bonnie Clark Pettit and George Jarvis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl A. Calvin; sister, Patricia Youngblood; and brother, Clark Jarvis. Mrs. Calvin was a graduate of Blanton's Business College and enjoyed her career as a secretary at the Governor's Western Office, in downtown Asheville, and also at the Buncombe Co. Commissioner's Office. She will be remembered for her loving and welcoming personality. She was also an avid reader and talented baker who loved sharing her culinary talents with others. Mrs. Calvin is survived by her son, Scott Calvin. The funeral service for Mrs. Calvin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen will officiate. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
