I’m a retired aviation writer and I’d followed Dr Joe’s long quest to find the number of a B-17 lost at Midway with Lt Robert S. Porter. Just today I found the answer in some old papers at the National Archives – it was 41-9212. I’m sorry I was too late but maybe Dr Joe checks in here occasionally – I hope so.
I wish I had.
