Joe Robert Lusk

Joe Robert Lusk, 86, of Leicester, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023.
Born May 28, 1937, in Buncombe Co., Joe was a son of the late Ernest L. and Corynne Penley Lusk.

Joe was a graduate of Leicester High School. He was an adventurous spirit, traveling extensively from one end of the east coast to the other. His love of baseball took him to NYC where he converted to Catholicism. He heard God’s calling to priesthood and followed it to upstate New York where he spent 2 years in religious brotherhood.

After much contemplation on God’s plan for him, he moved back to North Carolina to be with his family. Joe started his own window cleaning company which he operated and owned for 37 years. In 1985 he met his wife Mercedes and in 1986 they were married in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Joe was a fiercely faithful man, thanking God every day for the blessings of his family. He never forgot his religious duties, serving the Knights of Columbus at St. Joan of Arc.

He was an active man and lover of many sports. He accomplished record bowling streaks at Sky Lanes, and record running times in marathons all across the east coast. Above all, his sense of humor and charm are remembered most by those who knew him. He always had a joke that could lift your spirits, and a smile that could warm anyone’s heart.

He is survived by his wife, Mercedes “Medy” Sison Lusk; daughters, Heidi Marie Lusk Greene (Nathaniel JW Greene) and Hayley Corynne Lusk (Jonathan Read); son, Jeremy Lusk; sisters, Judith Hall and Linda Lusk; and brother, Gerald Lusk (Etta).

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
