As a past board member and faithful donor to Mission Hospital, John was an perfect example of the ‘greatest generation’ who knew the importance of giving back to help others and make the community stronger by donating his time, talent and treasure to uplift organizations like Mission.
Curtis and the family,
I noted with regret the recent obit of your Dad. We had a long term relationship as you are aware, and I had lost track of him in the past decade or so. He was a competent business person and a good man who I had great respect for and had considered him a friend as well. He will be missed.
My sincere condolences to you and the family,
Walt Gladding
My sincere condolences on the loss of your father. My heart goes out to you and your families.
With love,
Barbara
I have so many wonderful memories of days spent horseback riding, picking wild strawberries for our breakfast cereal, long walks, learning how to use the riding mower; all of them with my Grandad. The ‘farm’ was my favorite place in the whole world to be as a child…my own natural playground bordering the banks of the French Broad River. He taught me many things, like how to mow the lawn on the red and white riding mower, and which strawberries were ready to be picked and which ones needed to stay awhile on the vine. He taught me a skill I use and have taught my kids, how to make the perfect honey butter to put on my Grandmom’s homemade buttermilk biscuits. Whether they were silly memories like honey butter or unforgetable ones like weeks spent at Lake Toxaway making homemade peach ice cream, they are the most wonderful and treasured memories I will carry with me my whole life and pass on to my children. He will be missed, but absolutely never forgotten. I love you Granddad and you will remain in my heart and carry on through generations of lessons you taught me. I love you.
Hi Kathryn, I had not seen that your grandad had passed. I only knew that his phone did not answer and I knew he was 81 or so when he signed up for our Youngblood YDNA project. We are so appreciative to what his YDNA test results meant to our research…by confirming a little mystery with his ancestors. I only talked to him once to confirm our findings at the time. By confimring he descended from Jasper Newton YB Jr and Sr, we were able to conclude Reubin c1805 as the son of Eli YB c1775 the son of James YB c1740…who lived next door to my ancestor Thomas YB on the 1790 Edgefield Co, SC. Until this result, Eli was just slightly documented and from this we were able to confirm the descendants of his brother Thomas YB c1780 of Burke and Macon Co, NC just in the past two years. Feel free to email for this history.

To Mr. Youngblood’s family…In 1979, I opened my business at the age of 28 and I went to Mr. Youngblood to see if he would like to invest in my little child care business. He didn’t but he said so many nice and encouraging things and sent a lovely donation to my little business. I have been in business ever since and I have never forgotten his encouraging words. I saw him once many years later and he remembered me. What a nice man he was! Isabel W. Taylor
