John Robert Herron

July 22, 1942 ~ January 30, 2017
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
John Robert Herron (Paw Paw), went home to be with Jesus on January 30, 2017 at 9:47 p.m. surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Mr. Herron was the son of the late Carl and Mildred Herron, and brother of the late Everette Herron. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Melissa Herron; children, Tami Nelon (Bobby), Cherri Carter (Brian), Jimmy Herron (Cynthia), and Cindy Dorsey (Jon); sister Frankie Messer (Wayne); brother Carroll Herron (Peggy); and 15 grandchildren, Tasha, Ryan, Seth, Rachael, Joshua, Maggie, Laura, Abigail, Caleb, Noah, Thomas, Titus, Jonah, Levi, and Daniel.
Mr. Herron was a warrior for Christ and a family man. He was self employed for 50 years, and was a member of Newfound Baptist Church where he was involved in starting the children's church bus ministry for children throughout the Leicester community. He found God's grace too amazing to keep to himself, and you would never see Paw Paw without his bright yellow JESUS LOVES YOU! cards. He was also known as the penny man for throwing out his cross stamped pennies.
A celebration of life service will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5 at Zion Hill Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1008 Newfound Rd., Leicester, NC 28748.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, 68 Sweeten Creek Rd., Asheville, NC 28803, or to the Broyhill Baptist Children's Home, 111 Sneed Dr., Clyde, NC 28721.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
What can be said at the end of the day, when your race here on earth has been run; and stand before the Great White Throne Once the Judgement of God has begun?
The Books are opened and the pages searched and not one thing can be found, to prove your love for God above. Everything gets quiet, there's not a sound.
Then HE calls for "THE BOOK" to be brought and searched and your name cannot be found. Then HE turns and looks and quietly asks-"Did you not repent of your sins?"
There must be something wrong, Dear Sir: I'm as good as the others you see. "That's the trouble" HE said, as HE closed "THE BOOK". "You have looked at them, not ME".
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and things on earth will grow strangely dim-in the light of His glory and grace.
Melissa and family: Johnny was a good man. The Johnson family grew up through the woods with all the Herrons in the West Buncombe area and played in the fields when we were young kids. May God Bless all of you.

He sold some lots in red oak plantation and I tried to pay him for selling lots! He wouldn’t take a dime! He would always eat with me and dad at harbor inn seafood!! Always learned a lot from him there the years !!
Melissa, Tami, Cherri, Jimmy & Cindy:
Know each of you & your families are in my thoughts & prayers!
What a wonderful husband & father you were blessed with. Johnny touched so many lives for eternity. We will never know here but one day we will! Every time I here the song that says ‘thank you for giving to the Lord…I was a life that was changed’ I think of Johnny. He was about giving to people. Whether it was to help meet physical, emotional or financial needs he was mostly about sharing the gift of eternal life! What a legacy he leaves behind!
We were so so blessed to grow up in a church with such strong men & women who were willing to spend their time & energy with us.
Know that your family will always hold a special place in my heart!
With much love,
Kelley Parham Brunelle

My heart is saddened by the loss of Johnny. He was a wonderful man, whom
I loved & enjoyed talking too & seeing at Erwin’s football games. He is rejoicing in Heaven & worshipping our Lord & Savior. I pray the Lord will place his arms around you, give you peace and strength. May He hold you close & lift you up when you feel you can’t go on. I love you all dearly. Sending my love and hugs.

Melissa …… Your sweet Johnny made such a glorious, precious imprint on our life! We treasure all the beautiful memories that our Saviour has allowed to fill hearts. Johnny was an amazing example of not being ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ! His generousity and hospitality was a great reflection of our Redeemer’s Heart to His people! It is difficult to lay our treasures in heaven but I know our LORD will wrap you in His Comfort, Peace and Knowledge that He keeps His promise to never leave you or forsake you! We love you and we are lifting you before Him Who sits on His throne!
Cherri, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. May his wonderful and happy memories keep you in a warm embrace. All my love, Lana
My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this difficult time. Having grown up with Johnny and went to school with him, we talked a lot about memories when we would see one another. He will be missed.
Praying that God will comfort each of you as only He can.
So sorry for your loss. Johnny and his family were our neighbors for a time in Woodfin; very nice family. Praying that God’s love will bring you peace and comfort.
So sorry for your loss he was a wonderfully man
What a wonderful testimony this husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle has left behind! There is nothing more important than to have the peace of mind, knowing he is in the arms of Jesus. Though there is sadness and grief here on earth, as family and friends grieve his absence, knowing he is now in perfect health can bring no greater comfort! Prayers and love is sent to this wonderful family.
Melissa, will never forget all the love you and Jhonny poured into all the many fundraising and prayer vigilant for our son Wayne and the love you showed my family during our years of need. You both will always remain in my mind as some of God’s earthly angels. Much love to you and the kids in this time of suffering in your lives.
Mr Herron was an angel…… I had the privilege of meeting him as a child…. He was so loving, accepting and encouraging during one of the most difficult times of my life. I lost contact with him over the years and never got to tell what an impact he made on my life…. Rest in heaven Mr. Herron…. I know a great reward met you there. Until we meet again.
