John Scott Meadows

August 26, 1932 ~ October 7, 1999
Asheville hospital.
Mr. Meadows was born in
Haywood County and was a son of the late Virgil Lewis and Meekie Messer Meadows. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Meadows.
He served for twenty years in the US Marine Corps with tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Evelyn Rathbone Meadows; three sons, John Scott Meadows. Jr.
and his wife Rebecca of Asheville, Orville William “Bill” Meadows of Enka, and Gary Dean Meadows and his wife Leslie of Asheville; four grandchildren, Aaron Scott Meadows, Jessica
Michelle Meadows, Harrison Grant Meadows, and Audrey Leigh Meadows; two sisters, Sara Smith of
Shallotte, NC and Georgia Woody of Woodfin; four brothers, Ted Meadows of Shallotte, NC, and Virgil Lee Meadows, Thomas Willis Meadows,
and Michael Meadows, all of Candler.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Norman Hubbard officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Asheville High School Marine JROTC
at the church cemetery.
His family will receive
friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, and request that memorials
be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
Mr. Meadows will remain at the funeral home until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
I worked with John at EA Industries and had a lot of respect for him… It was a pleasure and honor to have known him. He will be remembered and missed.
