Johnny Chandler, 77, of Asheville, died on Friday, May 25, 2018, at the CarePartners Solace Center.
A native of Mars Hill, Johnny was raised in Franklin and Thomasville, NC. He proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy. He was a North Carolina State Trooper and retired from Buncombe Construction as their CEO and Vice President. Mr. Chandler was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Chandler; sister, Frances Chandler Smith; brother, Onley Arrington; children, Sandra Wright (Jeff), Johnny Michael Chandler, Susan Ward, and Emma Chandler; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Pastors Steve Brockwell and Dr. Keith Hutchinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

I will always think of this man (my Daddy) my first love. I knew there would be a day this would be I always said not before he’s 95. I will miss my Daddy like crazy but he is with my son, his pride and joy grandson Adam. If heaven had an email I would simple say Daddy I love you! SEND

You always made me feel save growing up and as an adult. I have memories we shared together and will always keep them in my heart.I remember when you had your 1st grandson my son.You we’re so proud
He spoke of you at your service and I know you we’re very proud of him.You we’re the daddy be never had.I know you had a special place in your heart for him and new he would go places. Of course you loved all your grandchildren but that 1st one is special you always said .My daddy never favored none of us kids .He had his own special love for all of us .I want to Thank everyone for all the beautiful flowers and cards you sent .My mother loved them all and we thank you. It was so hard doin his service but my mom wasn’t able to do it alone.She loved that man more than life.Me my brother and boyfriend of 16 years helped her.He so loved him to and the feeling was mutaul.Daddy always said he’s a good man diddy!That was my nick name from daddy .
She new who she could count on.I promised my daddy to always be there for her and I was until her last breath .Like I was when he took his !I’m late posting this so sorry but i was taking care of my mother alone the past 5 years and she passed away June 19,2023.I made know difference between them loved them both so much !I miss you daddy so much and I know you and mom are together that gives me peace ❤️!Bless everyone for coming and caring . Apriciate the love I felt from all you you that day for my daddy !
