José Macias, 48, of 136 Brown Road, Asheville, died Saturday, April 4, 2009.
Mr. Macias was born in San Jose de la Paz, Mexico, and was a son of Raquel Jacinto and the late José Macias. He was employed as manager of the El Chapala Restaurant in Brevard and was a member of the Catholic faith.
José loved spending time with his children and music, especially the Beatles and Eagles and the Spanish music, Los Bukis. He enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway, nature and planting flowers, especially roses.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sandra Diane Threlkeld Macias; three daughters, Maria Elena Macias, Rachel Rose Macias and Alisa Madison Macias, all of Asheville; two sons, José DeJesus Macias of Arden and David Jacob Macias of Asheville; three sisters, Maria Elena Rodriquez and Maria Trinidad Marquez of Asheville and Maria Guadalupe Nuñez of Hendersonville; and six brothers, Leonardo Macias and Daniel Macias of Morganton, Pascual Macias of Asheville, Refugio Macias of Brevard, and Eliceo Macias and Julian Macias of California.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. C. Morris Boyd officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hendersonville.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

It was always a pleasure to see Jose in El Chapala. He always made time to stop and chat with us, even the days that he was so tired. Jose, we considered you a friend and will miss you! May God comfort your family in their loss.

Please accept our sympathy for the loss of Senor Macias. Our prayers are with the Macias family and our friends at El Chapala, that the Lord will be close to you in your sorrow. Senor Macias was a hard-working man and always had kind words for the patrons of El Chapala. The community will miss this gentleman.
