Asheville- Joseph Terry “Jodie” Anderson, 80 years old, of Asheville, passed away on December 31, 2024. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Willard Anderson and Mildred Anderson Vicke. He graduated from Lee Edwards High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He was an avid UNC Tarheels fan, loved playing tennis, loved dancing, and was a music enthusiast of all types, having played the guitar for most of his life. His sense of humor, his wonderful laugh, and his gift of storytelling was loved by all who knew him. But more than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Jodie enjoyed a 60+ year career as a clothier, primarily with the Bell Company, where he prided himself on service, loyalty, and commitment to his customers and his co-workers. In the words of his co-workers, Byrd and William Rawlings, “We will miss his presence, but we will honor his memory by living out the values he cherished: love, laughter, and unending commitment to each other.”
Jodie is survived by his wife of 60 years, True Love Anderson; sons Dr. Rob (Tracy) Anderson and Steve (Augusta Anne) Anderson; brother Steve (Terri) Anderson and sister Shirley (Rick) Broome, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Known as “Papa” by his grandchildren Lara (Austin) Boehme, Michael (Juliana) Anderson, Matthew, Jack, Anna, Ruby, and Mary Anderson and his great grandchildren Charlie and Theo Anderson, Knox Boehme, and the late Cayden Boehme.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2025. The date and time will be updated on this website once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Four Seasons Hospice of Hendersonville in memory and honor of Jodie (571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, N.C., 28731).
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Anytime I went to Bells T or the one that followed I always looked for Jodie for suggestions and help / he always was smiling and had a good joke or story to tell me / great sales person and gave me great advice on clothes and yes life too!
I’ll miss seeing him there .. that store will never be the same for me / his ghost will always be in that store watching all of us who counted on his presence and good clothes advice ! Thank you JA ! Peace …Doug Jones
Jodie was a most memorable individual. We navigated through 3 schools together: Vance, Hall Fletcher, Lee Edwards. Twenty years after graduation, we had our first reunion at the Taylor Ranch, and I remember well Jodie approaching the car with a big smile on his face as I drove up. He was the first of my classmates that I had seen since graduation.
Rest in peace, Jodie. You were a great friend.
It was a privilege to know Jodie and an honor to work with him for many years. Jodie will be sorely missed and his memory will be on our minds. His passing is a tremendous loss for his family and the Asheville community alike.
Jodie was such a delight to be around, a smile we should all desire to share with others as he did with so many. He fitted me on many, many occasions, always patient, also engaging, always polite and most of all always a gentlemen.
You will be forever missed Jodie.
I’m so sorry, True, Rob and Steve! So many great memories of times with your family! Praying for your strength and peace as you adjust to life without Jodie. Love you all!
Jodie, Great man will be missed by many
So sorry 🙏
Jodie was more than someone who just helped me find and fit me in a suit or clothes, he was someone who always lifted you up. I’m bias because he was a relative of mine. One of my Aunts always referred to me as Jodie instead of my nickname, Joey. I will always be thankful for the mix up because it was an honor to know who she was mixing up with. Jodie always had a way of making you feel better before you left. My prayers for peace and comfort are with the family. Jodie will be missed.
True & family,
Our hearts & Prayers are with you in the loss of such a wonderful man, husband and father. He was always so polite, cordial and helpful with the task at hand. A true winsome salesman!
I was always so fascinated with his memory of the past and how he seemed to know the most recent news about so many different people. I know Jodie will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
True, Rob & Steve, we will keep you and your families in our prayers over the coming months. Please call if we can be of help in any way.
