Joy Morgan Wilkinson, age 90, died at Givens Estates in Asheville, NC, on Sunday, September 13, 2015.
Born January 13, 1925, in Jackson, Alabama to Mattie Lee and Thomas Bernard Morgan, she attended the Ashley Hall High School and Converse College. In 1946, she married William Cook Wilkinson II.
She and Bill lived in many different places -- including Colorado Springs, Greensboro, NC, Greenville, SC, and Atlanta -- before settling in Bartow, FL, where she worked as a hospital volunteer and raised her two sons, Lee and Lawrence.
After retirement, she and Bill lived in Pawleys Island, SC, and again in Bartow. After Bill's death, Joy moved to Asheville to be near her son Lee and other family members.
Joy will be especially remembered for her warmth, wit and smile, her generous spirit, her devotion to her family and friends, and for her delight in the everyday joys of life.
Survivors include her son Lawrence, granddaughter Nora Wilkinson. Her son Lee and wife Virginia, grandchildren Nicholas Wilkinson, Jayme Ray, Jake Hall and Rob Hall; and her great grandchildren Sarah Margaret Ray, Will Ray, Jack Ray, and Lucy Ray.
Services will be held at on 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, at the Pulliam Chapel, Givens Estates, Asheville, NC. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and at the reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome either to the Central Methodist Church Saturdays @ 6 Service or the Givens Residents' Assistance Program.
